Today my daughter had her fifteenth birthday party. It has been so much fun to be able to watch her over the last month planning her theme, looking up decorating ideas, and designing necklaces to bless her friends. She always gets SO excited-every year, and its contagious. Her personality, the bubbly, cute way that she is, I absolutely adore. I love watching my daughter blossom into a mini-adult. And now that the games have been played, the makeup washed off, much cake and root beer consumed, they are all piled on couches and bean bags watching a movie with their blankets.. and I even caught sight of a few stuffed animals :D
On this day 16 years ago, my husband proposed to me. The weather today was quite similar to that day, a day that I hold as one of the most exciting days in my life, next to our wedding day and the days that all five of my children were born. I remember seeing my daughter's face for the first time, and hearing her blood curdling screams (to which my midwife said we were gonna have our hands full :) and it feels like all of these things happened yesterday! These memories have not faded much, so when the birthdays/anniversaries come around every year, I always ask, “How in the world does time pass so quickly?” And then I shed a tear or two.
Every day makes a memory. Every day moves us onward toward eternity. Tonight I sat, watched and listened to these precious girls, whom I have watched grow up, and who will not have many more years under my roof for birthday parties as they are quickly entering adulthood. I want to remember the laughter, the giggles, and all the makeup parties. I am thankful for the memories that the Lord has blessed me with.
For myself personally, I often need to be told to slow down. I get too caught up in the lists of things to be done, to actually enjoy the gifts that my Father has given me. So I want to encourage you all to stop, and give thanks to Him who gives us all things! Any good thing we have comes from Him!
Blessings my friends!
James 1:17 “ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.”
Ephesians 5:15-16,20 “Look carefully how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Giving thanks always and for everything to God the father in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.”
