Emotional Direction

Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are” immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealously, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self- control; against such things there is no law. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit." - Galatians 5.19-25

Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a fairy emotional person. Most days I feel something towards every conversation, situation, or every task that is at hand.

Depending upon the day, those emotions could range from; anger, happiness, jealously, joy, peace, anxiety, contentment, envy, or compassion. How unstable would I be if I acted and spoke upon every emotion that I felt? How unstable would you be? Lately, I have been noticing how much emotions rule our lives and direct our footsteps. I have noticed this in myself, and in others as well. If we allow our emotions to direct our footsteps, what would come of it? My guess is that the result would not be too great…

Let me clarify… our emotions can be a wonderful thing. God did give them to us after all, correct? Without them we would be mundane robots roaming around the Earth. We need to feel. We need to feel compassion for the weak, love for the lost, and have the desire and passion to extend a kind hand to someone in need. But all of those emotions come directly from The Lord. In the above passage, there is a clear distinction. Deeds of the Flesh, and Fruits of the Spirit.

Have you crucified your flesh, or are you allowing it to get up and walk off the cross?

If you have been redeemed by The Lord, do not mess around with this. If we live by the Spirit, we are also called to walk by the Spirit not by our flesh.

Keep your flesh upon a cross, crucify it, and walk in the way that The Lord has called you to walk. Please take time this week to ask Christ if you are acting upon His will for your life, if He is the one directing your footsteps, and for Him to fill you with His Spirit so that you may walk in it. Surrender your feelings, desires, and passions and take up your cross.

Rely on Christ to direct your every movement and every emotion, on good and bad days.

Love you guys, Ellie
