Too Far For My Aim

Look at the Sun,

NO! Don’t look at the Sun.

IMAAAAGINE yourself looking at the Sun. Ahhh. . . much better, the Sun looks so great when you imagine it. You can actually see it in colour instead of just a bright, searing, light, burning its way through your unprotected retina. Notice the little solar flares shooting off from the surface? Those are MASSIVE, so massive in fact, that you could fit the Earth inside of one, many. . . MANY times over, the. Sun. IS HUGE!! Now imagine trying to point at it, sounds easy right? Probably not as easy as it sounds. The Sun is actually so far out there in empty space, that if a laser beam could shoot out of your finger and reach the Sun (sweet), your aim would have to be essentially perfect, in fact, if your aim was off by even ONE DEGREE, your aim would start to trail off. Across a football field your straight line would be off by just over five feet, after a mile? You’ll be off by almost a hundred feet! By the time you reach the Sun. . . you’ll miss by 1.6 million miles. As in MILLION! As in MILES! Whoooooaaaah!

This seems to me an interesting parallel to our walk with Christ. The sin that we allow, or even worse, ignore in our lives, takes us off of Christ’s course, or, out of his footsteps if you like.

Ephesians 2:10 "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."

The longer we walk in unaddressed sin, the farther off target we move, sin hinders our ability to effectively perform God’s design for our lives. There seems to be a fallen-human tendency to grow used to, or comfortable with, sin in our lives, It’s very easy to become lax and fall deeper into more and more sin, before you know it, you’re a million miles off course.

Let us not live this way, we have an answer, we have THE answer.

Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 10:13: "No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."

God himself (the maker of the path we’re following) promises to “make a way of escape”. Even if we MISS the way of escape, or rather, choose not to take it, God STILL provides a way back to fellowship with him.

1 John 1:9 tells us. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

How’s your aim right now? Is there sin in your life, pushing you off of Gods course? Deal with it right now! God is looking at you right now. Picture that! He knows your thoughts as you’re reading this. . . right now he hears your thoughts. . . and he knows if you’re thinking about putting it off for later. . .

Love you guys,

BJ
