Ahh...nothing like getting to the point with the title of the devo, right?
One of my favorite things about reading the bible is how God pulls no punches. The brief passage I want to share for Devo this evening is the perfect example…
“Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid.” - Proverbs 12.1
Yes that’s right folks...hating reproof, which is rebuke or reprimand, is STUPID.
It’s amazing to think about how many times that I’ve been stupid in light of this….
I mean, let’s face it...we hate being corrected. Our pride hates being poked with the long sharp stick of reality that reminds us that we don’t know it all, we haven’t done everything right, and there are people who God has put in our lives to remind us of that fact.
God’s word is the primary tool that unveils our shortcomings by the bucketful.
But being wrong doesn’t make us stupid….hating the revelation of that truth is what makes us stupid.
To win the war of our own stupidity we must become those who love discipline because we believe what Proverbs 12.1 says….that if we love discipline we love knowledge. That means we are teachable. That’s the opposite of being stupid...it’s wisdom. And we should ask the Lord for as much wisdom as He desires to give us.
James 1.5: “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”
So my dear readers...let us become less stupid….by learning to love discipline and thereby love knowledge as the Lord corrects and instructs us.
Grab your bible and read Hebrews 12….it won’t take you long. You’ll know why when you read it…..
Love you all!
