And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.- Mark 1:35

In Mark chapter 1 Jesus had started His ministry as He preaches and does miracles. At this point His life started to get crazy, throughout the gospels we see crowds following Him. As Jesus’ life starts to get busy where do we see Him turn in that time?

He turns to prayer. When you get busy in life where is the first place you turn for rest? Your couch? Your bed? Video games? Sometimes we can tend to justify laziness because we are so busy, we just need “our time”.

Why is it that when we start to get busy the first thing we do is push God to the side then complain about how over loaded and stressed we are in life? I’m one of the worst people at this! I am a full time student, work part time, run my own shop part time, I’m engaged, and I serve. And I am very possessive of my time.

Then when I look at how busy I am God is the first one to go. That doesn’t make any sense at all! Jesus said to come to Him all who are burdened and heavy laden and He will give them rest.

Instead of God we turn to things that just encourage more laziness.

Martin Luther said that on his busy days he had to spend 4 hours in prayer just to make it through the day and we complain if we have to spend 15 minutes in prayer. Jesus got up on a full day before it was light to pray. He didn’t think “Let’s see, I preach at 8:00, so if I wake up at 7:59 I should be able to make it in time." I don’t know about you but I know I have done that at least once… okay maybe twice…

I have a challenge for you. This week I want you to get up and spend 15 minutes in prayer. That’s all I’m asking. There are plenty of things to pray for, you can start by praying that you, and I, would learn to prioritize God first instead of pushing Him to the sidelines.
