Psalm 8.3-4: “ When I look at Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?”
I have a cold. I hate colds. Headaches, plugged nose, coughing...tis the season I know, but I still loathe being sick.
As I was mid-whine about being sick and how I don’t have time for this, blah blah blah….I decided last night to watch TV….and perhaps my compromised brain function led me to a very odd choice, (at least for me)...but in retrospect I think it was God’s guidance.
I turned on The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross.
If you haven’t….You Should.
Smile on his face, paintbrush in hand and afro swaying in the...breeze...I guess….Bob got to work on his blank canvas and within an half hour he had turned nothing into a beautiful winter mountain scene with massive peaks, rolling hills, and fresh snow covered trees.
I was mesmerized at his skill, good natured humor and wit as his brush relentlessly played on the canvas, layering color upon color to bring life and depth to a winter wonderland. And then it happened….The Lord spoke to me.
Bob Ross is an impressionist for the magnificent creation that we live in. We exist in a world that was spoken into being and we ourselves are formed by the hand of God (Psalm 139.13). The stroke of the Masters brush is not only seen in the heavens and the earth but it lies within the very DNA that we are made of.
Take a minute today….
Look around…..at the sky, the trees, the water, the colors, the animals, and the people made in His image…..
...And praise God for His masterful stroke, in this world and in each other.
If we can slow ourselves down often enough, we will find so much Joy in God’s “painting” that is observable at all times. What a wonderful and glorious God, who has, is, and will continue to paint beautiful creation with expressions and reflections of His heart and glory!
Love you guys!
