“Your glory God is what my heart longs for”
Do you ever think about what you are saying when you worship? This line is a verse in a song that we sing quite often, but have you ever really thought about the words you were saying? What does it look like for your heart to long for God’s glory? Longing means to have a strong desire or to yearn for something. Have you ever been really thirsty? After a long day of work or a long practice with a team or just chasing kids around at camp throwing things at them... That feeling of thirst you feel, you are going to find water no matter what, then when you finally do it’s the best drink of water you’ve ever had.
That is what it looks like to long for God.
You want to be close to Him so badly that you are going to do whatever you have to. We should all have that thirst for Christ. A thirst for His glory.
Jesus said in John 7:37 “On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.”
If any of you have that thirst go to Christ. Spend time in prayer, spend time in His word and you will see that your thirst has been quenched. How do you know when you are getting closer to God? This is a question that I’ve struggled with in the past but the answer is really simple.
Jesus continues in John 7:38 “Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”
If you stand in the path of a river you are going to get wet. The people around you should be getting drenched with the Holy Spirit. Out of your lives should be flowing a river of God’s glory. That’s what it looks like for your heart to long for His glory.
(Time for a little product placement) Obey your thirst. Go to Christ and let Him fill you with living water.
