Mark 3:13-14 “And He went up on the mountain and called to him those whom he desired, and they came to him. And he appointed twelve (whom he also named apostles) so that they might be with him…”
A few years back I found something in the Gospel of Mark that astounded me: He likes us. God likes us.
I know, you’re probably thinking that I’m a bit slow to pick up on the obvious.
But, I’d argue that though most of us have heard and accepted
that the Lord LOVES us,
yet I’d bet that most of us would be surprised to know that He likes us.
We’ve all read (John 3:16) that “God so LOVED the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
And most of us have heard (1 John 4:8) that “…God is love…”
So we’ve gotten used to hearing that God loves us. But did you know that He likes you?
In Mark 3, we read that Jesus called to him(self) those whom he desired and we read that he called them, so that they might be with him…
Jesus could have done this any way He wanted. He could have chosen not to come and rescue humanity. He could have saved us - and then banished us to someplace away from himself. But He saved us - and then He calls us to be “with Him.”
And scripture tells us that it wasn’t just those original twelve that he wanted. In Revelation 3:20 Jesus says: “I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.”
He likes you. He wants you to be with Him - for all eternity. And now. He wants you to be with Him, each day, to spend time with Him.
Take a few minutes - read His Word, and pour out your heart to Him, know that He hears you, He cares for you, He loves you - and He likes you! You’re not a bummer for Him. He chose you - and He chooses to be with you.
