“…let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus…” (Hebrews 12:1,2 ESV)
I hope you had a blast at camp this last week. It sounds like it was amazing. I bet all of you have memories from the last few days that will last the rest of your lives!
I hope (even more) that you were challenged and encouraged in your walk with Christ! Pastor Mike’s messages (I am Saved. I am Strengthened. I am Studied. I am Sent.) gave you lots to think about - and much to apply to your daily living.
But here’s reality: if you now shift into neutral (spiritually) - you’ll gain very little from the week. You’ve got to stay engaged. You’ve got to take some time - to think, to study the Word, to pray - and to ask God to take all that you learned - and make it practical reality in how you live! On Sunday mornings we’ve been studying 1 Corinthians - and recently (in Chapter 9) we read where Paul said: “run to win!” (v.24).
You’ve come this far, you’re in the race - why wouldn’t you try to win? Don’t be like the ridiculous guy in Proverbs 19:24, that’s the guy, who grabs a handful of Doritos, but is too lazy to raise them to his mouth. You’ve been given some good spiritual food this last week. So, go back and look at those passages again, look at your notes, talk with your youth leaders - take some time to pray about the things that hit you - and do the work of raising those chips to your food masher. ;)
Don’t shift into neutral, don’t put your Bible on the shelf, don’t take a break from God. Don’t let the enemy tangle you up in sin - don’t let off the gas spiritually. Instead, accelerate.
