Hitting the Shower

This morning I shoveled some dirt. I raked a lot of dirt. And, I ended up wearing quite a bit of dirt. I’m not sure how, but by lunchtime, I was covered from head to foot.

Shoes, jeans, shirt, hat - me, everything was covered. It was no good just brushing off, or even trying to clean up what I was wearing. It was time to hit the showers - and put on something clean.

Life without Christ does that to us too (metaphorically)! Thats why Paul tells us in Ephesians 4 - to hit the showers:

"Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds.

They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart. They have become callous and have given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity.

But that is not the way you learned Christ! — assuming that you have heard about Him and were taught in Him, as the truth is in Jesus, to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness"

(Ephesians 4:17-24 ESV)

Paul says to those who have chosen Salvation in Christ: it’s time to live different than we used to (you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do).

No more being alienated from …God, no more hardness of heart… It’s time, to hit the showers - to be renewed, to put on the new self, it’s time to allow God to remake us in true righteousness and holiness.

Are you feeling dirty? Are you somehow covered in the stuff of this world? Ask God to clean you (forgive you) [see 1 John 1:9]. Ask Him to give you a clean change of clothes (to transform you) [see 2 Corinthians 5:17].

Tell God that you’re ready (metaphorically) to hit the showers…
