“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
One of my kids left our family a simple but profound message on our kitchen white-board. They wrote “Remember…” and then drew a simple picture of a kneeling man and woman bowing before a baby laying in a manger. It’s December. The snow has started to fall. Peppermint Mochas and EggNog Lattes are replacing Pumpkin Spice. And in the midst of it all we might just forget why. I don’t mean that we’ll forget what happened. Jesus was born. God put on human flesh.
If you don’t remember the story, maybe you should check this out: https://youtu.be/suowe2czxcA
I expect that most will remember why - at least as far as “what happened.”
But do we understand “Why?” in regard to - what did it accomplish?
It’s impossible to understand the Christmas story if we start with the angel visiting Mary, and end with the Wise Men bringing gifts… there’s much more to this story - both before the angel and after the wise men. It all starts with the our truly Good God creating us… Take a few minutes for one more video - that will lay out the story clearly: http://story4.us/calvaryrathdrum
It starts with Creation (Genesis 1:1), tragically shifts to the Fall (Romans 5:12), mercifully to the Rescue (Romans 5:8), and finally, beyond anything we could hope, to Restoration (2 Corinthians 5:17). Take a few moments as we head into Jingle Bells and Merry Christmas - and remember why. Remember what it was God accomplished by coming, putting on human flesh, living on this earth, and dying in our place. It was part of His plan - to restore us into right relationship with Himself - forever!
