“ If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming. In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its image of its creator. Here there is not Greek nor Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all.”- Colossians 3.1-11
This passage for me has always been one of conviction…I mean, once we have accepted Christ, we then are called to think differently, live differently, and sometimes put down the things we were once seeking after.. Sounds like a challenge, right? Oh, it is. I think we all know that. How often do you find yourself saying something that should not be said, or thinking something you should never think? That means even in moments of pressure, pain, troubles, any hardships, we are called to live this way. That means next time stub your toe on that stupid stool that is in your house, you are responsible for controlling what comes out of your mouth.
Did you notice how the things we are to put to death were listed out? I’m sure one or more of those sins listed above are applicable to our lives. All of these things are part of the way the world lives, and not the way Jesus lives. We are faced with the question, who will I identify with, the world, or with Jesus? I pray you all choose the latter if you have yet to do so. Once we come to the realization that the God who created the entire universe wants to use us for His glory and be in a relationship with us, great things can happen. Put away sin, seek things that are above. Once we have come to know Christ, we should be striving to be like Jesus. That means seeking after goodness, love, compassion, thankfulness, mercy, humility, and honesty.. Let us lay down our sin, put it to death.. and exchange our sin for God’s goodness. Sounds great to me! So friend, who will you identify with, the world, or with Jesus?
Love you guys!
